Wa'tkonnonhwerá:ton - Welcome

D. Ahsén:nase Douglas is a Kanien'kehá:ka Painter, Educator and Urban NDN with roots in Kahnawà:ke Mohawk Territory. He works primarily in oil on canvas and considers himself a figurative painter.

Shé:kon - Hello. With the demise of my publisher of 6 years due to COVID-19 and it's economic impact, I have decided to take on the sale of my popular children's story book "Coyote Boy: An original trickster story". Otherwise it would have died out as well and gone the way of the unicorn or dodo.

I also decided to help out a brother, Jeff Monaque and also sell his Ojibwe language book, "Ahaw, Anishinaabem (OK , Speak Ojibwe)"

Keep in mind that I am a painter (or artist... although I don't use that term to describe myself), teacher, storyteller (with a small 's') and urban NDN. I typically don't use the moniker author. As a storyteller I just took what I knew and wrote it down so that others could enjoy my story when I wasn't able to be there myself.

Something else I want to mention. The company that prints these books is in the USA, so the price may fluctuate according to the exchange rate. I don't plan on making a lot of money from these and my goal is to keep them alive as long as possible.

If you need to purchase just one or two books, I've set up a paypal button for you, or you can visit Amazon. They currently seem to be selling below my cost. If you need to purchase a class set please contact me and I will give you a price.

I hope you enjoy these books and enjoy them in the spirit they were created.

Coyote Boy: An Original Trickster Story

Deron Ahsen:nase Douglas | Aug 25, 2015

Coyote Boy: An Original Trickster Story is the contemporary tale of a young Kanien'kehá:ka (Mohawk) boy who moves away from his traditional territory in Quebec to the lands of the Anishinaabe in Southern Ontario.  Follow his adventures as he meets Coyote for the first time, and discovers that his newly found mischievous friend will stop at nothing to get him into trouble -- for his own good.

Take a late night magical journey with Coyote Boy as he discovers new and exciting territories -- or as Coyote would say -- "Travellin' Air-Coyote!"

This special edition also contains additional supplemental information for further discussion and includes the retelling of two traditional Mohawk stories; The Mohawk Creation Story and The Three Brave Hunters and the Great Bear.
